Spunday: The Emphasis on Uni

Happy Spunday!

I’m excited to say I finished my first bobbin of singles in my Unicorn alpaca.

I’m disappointed in how this is turning out (which is why the bobbin is not full). It is not even at all and I don’t think that I chose the right way to blend the colors. I’m hoping the second singles will bring life to each other and that the finished project is something to be proud of…and something cute because I really love the colorway.

I have a feeling this upcoming week will be a hard drag. Hopefully there will be time for spinning and if I’m lucky I’ll have another finished singles for next week! If I’m really lucky I’ll have a finished skein!

So now its your turn! What’s on your wheel?

WIP Wednesday

Happy Humpday!

Sewing

I am very excited to say that my farm is slowly but surely growing! I have 5 chickens and 4 cows that just need some appliqué to add some pizzazz.

Up next is sheep, which I have four already cut. I am so excited to make sheep. *sigh* I love sheep!

After the sheep are done, I will be making some pigs because no farm is complete without some oinkers. I think the pig will be the last of the animals and the rest of the space will be pin-wheels, etc.

I have officially set my goal to have the top done by Easter, so about 2 months. I should have plenty of time… Right?

Knitting

I have been making so great headway on my Ribbed Beanie; I only have about 5 cm until I can start decreasing!

Hopefully I’ll finish in the next week.

Spunday: the Struggle

Happy Spunday!

This week has been crazy busy… like collapsing in bed as soon as you’ve finished the to-do list. Pair that with spinning struggles, that makes for a measly amount done on the spun-front.

This week I was ables to start my Unicorn roving…

20140215-235742.jpg
As you can see there’s barely any there. I’ve been having a ton of trouble drafting it… I’ve never spun alpaca before, so is this a character trait? Does it draft differently than sheep’s wool? I would love some help with this!

In the meantime, thanks to its portability, I’ve had some great advancements on my knitting.

This is a Ribbed Beanie for a friend that is being made out my Shetland from last week. I’m loving how its turning out but I love how much I love working with homespun!

Spunday: Unicorns on the Shetland Isles

Happy Spunday everyone!!

This week I was able to finish my second bobbin of Shetland wool and I was able to ply them both together, which went beautifully this time!

I now have about 160 yards of 100% undyed Shetland wool! I really can’t describe how much I loved working with the Shetland wool and I definitely see it becoming a staple.

The handspun is destined to be a nice little hat (which I hope to start in the upcoming week).

I got another happy delivery this week!

This is100% Alpaca from Frayed Knot Fibre on etsy. This is in the colorway Unicorn (sorry guys its all out!). As a young girl I loved unicorns so I can’t wait to spin this up!

This is next in line to be spun; I’m enjoying looking at Little House on the Prairie way to much!

So now its your turn! What’s on your wheel?
